Why raw — is it really better for my dog?
Yes. It really is better, in fact best for your dog. A simple raw diet of meat, bones, vegetables, and fruits are what dogs eat in the wild. Raw means life longevity, shiny coats, tiny poos, improved energy, proper weight effortlessly maintained, easily digestible food, And, a thrilled canine customer.
The reality is, processed food for dogs has three serious negative impacts. First, it is seriously deficient in the ingredients dogs need to maintain good health. Second, it contains ingredients that actually harm a dog’s health. Third, intensive farming practices make up most of the world’s meat products, which means that animal lived a short painful life and was likely slaughtered in a drawn out long and horrible and cruel manner. This also means that animal endured a great deal of stress which leads to poor quality meat. Most intensive farming includes using drugs to keep the animals alive. These chemicals end up in the packaging and which can wreak havoc on your dog’s wellbeing when eaten.

Why is a raw diet controversial? What’s all the fuss?
Guppy’s primary resources regarding raw feeding come from years of experience with our own dogs and raw feeding, research supporting and challenging raw diets and nutritional requirements for healthy dogs, and veterinarians including The Raw Feeding Veterinary Society. Honey’s Real Dog food, a company in Britain, has provided us with extensive resources and and guidance.
Dogs in the wild have been eating a species specific diet of raw meat, bone, vegetables, grasses, and fruit for far longer than manufactured pet food which began essentially as floor sweepings from wheat mills in the mid 1800’s. Dog food producers began paying vets for endorsements and continue to do so. Manufactured dog food has been promoted as the only safe thing to feed your dog. The sad reality is that the law doesn’t protect your dog. It protects human food production. The guidance to dog food manufactures says that so long as the dog food does not kill your animal immediately, it is perfectly fine for them to eat. This is our industrial complex at work, not for the wellbeing of your dog, but for the profits of the pet food industry.

What’s different for senior dogs?
Senior dogs who are new to raw diet eating should transition more slowly. They should spend time integrating raw into their current diet and transition fully to raw over a two week period. We have seen exceptional outcomes with seniors who switch to Guppy’s raw.
